چکیده
We report two cases of pleomorphic astrocytoma, a rare primary brain tumor with an unusually good prognosis. These lesions typically are peripherally located, partially cystic, temporal lobe masses. Dural attachment is frequent, calcifications are not. Angiography usually shows a hypovascular mass, although blood supply from the external carotid artery may be seen.

Angiomatous pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma: a case report and literature review
BACKGROUND Pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma is rare, accounting for <1 % of all central nervous system (CNS) neoplasms. Angiomatous pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma is an extremely rare variant of pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma, with only six cases reported thus far. CASE PRESENTATION A 24-year-old Chinese female patient who presented with seizure and loss of consciousness for 15 min underwent compu...
متن کاملPleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma: an atypical astrocytoma.
Pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma (PXA) is rare primary neoplasm of brain. Despite its pleomorphic appearance, it has a relatively good prognosis. We report a case of biopsy proven pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma in a young male who presented with visual and sensory symptoms, classical neuroimaging findings and showed remarkable recovery, post surgery. We have also reviewed recent literature focusing...

We report a case of a pleomorphic xantoastrocytoma which manifested itself as a cystic isodense lesion in the right fronto-temporal lobe in a 26 year-old woman. It appeared as a soft yellow tumor with cystic cavities on surgery. Five months after this surgery, the patient was submitted to a new operation, which revealed a friable tumor, easily differentiated from the normal parenchyma, with cys...
متن کاملAnaplastic Pleomorphic Xanthoastrocytoma: Morphological and Molecular Features of Three Cases
Pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma (PXA) is usually a low grade astrocytic tumor. However, some cases show significant mitotic activity (5 or more mitosis per 10 High Power Field) and/or necrosis. These tumors are described as pleomorphic xanthoastrocytomas with anaplastic features and display increased risk of recurrence. We aimed to evaluate histopathological, immunohistochemical and molecular fea...
متن کاملPleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma in a case of tuberous sclerosis
Tuberous sclerosis is a known phakomatosis and the associated finding of a subependymal giant cell astrocytoma is common with this disorder. A case of tuberous sclerosis with a finding not previously reported, i.e. that of a pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma, is presented here.
متن کاملAnaplastic pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma with disseminated growth pattern at the time of diagnosis as well as after treatment: case report and review of literature
Background: Pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma (PXA) is usually considered a relatively benign and localized entity. However, cases of PXA with anaplastic features have been reported in recent years. Anaplastic pleomorphic xanthoastrocytoma has been added to the 2016 WHO classification of CNS tumors as a distinct entity. Case presentation: We describe a rare case of PXA with dissemination, both at t...
